Saturday Sports: Lisbon Girls’ Soccer secures school’s first ever ladies ticket to the State Final 4

POTSDAM, New York (WWNY) - A trip to the Girls’ Soccer State Final 4 on the line Saturday afternoon at Potsdam High School, as Lisbon hosted Chazy in Class D action.

It was the Golden Knights with a right-wing break, and in the wild scramble, Regan Pirie crosses and scores for Lisbon. It’s 1-0.

Near the end of the half, Chazy fails to clear. Ava Murphy pounces on the loose ball and drills the second Lisbon goal.

In the second half, it was Pirie in close as she sends the ball past the keeper and into the mesh: 3-0 Lisbon.

Bell secures the win with her second goal of the game.

Lisbon wins 4-0. The first girls’ team from Lisbon to punch their ticket to a State Final 4.

It was Lisbon vs. Chazy, as well in the Boys’ State Class D Regional Final at Potsdam High School.

In the third minute, Maddox Tindale breaches the Lisbon defense and punts the game’s first goal: 1-0 Chazy.

Five minutes later, Tindale sets up Dylan McAfee for a 20-yard blast, spinning off the keeper and over the goal line: 2-0 Chazy.

Lisbon’s best chance came on a cross and a low-header, just wide.

But the two goals in the first eight minutes would hold up.

Chazy blanks Lisbon 2-0.

On the gridiron, top seed Sandy Creek met Mount Markham in the Section 3 Class D Semifinals at Adirondack High School.

Opening kickoff of the 3rd quarter, Mount Markham was up 7-6 when Sam Beadle takes the kick and he takes it the distance for the touchdown: 13-6 Mustangs.

Later in the 3rd, Jamison Young takes it in from 2 yards out: 21-6 Mt. Markham.

Sandy Creek answers when Mason Ennist plows his way in, cutting the Mt. Markham lead to 21-13.

Mount Markham ends the Comets undefeated season with a 21-13 win.

In the late game, 2nd seed Beaver River battled 3rd seed Dolgeville

The game was scoreless in the 2nd when Derrick Zehr connects with Kade Schneider. Schneider finds a hole and scampers down the sideline for the touchdown, putting the Beavers on top 8-0.

But it was all Dolgeville after that as Trevor Borst builds up a head of steam and slashes his way to the endzone, tying the game at 8.

With 3:25 in the half, Borst gives Dolgeville the lead for good with his 2nd touchdown run of the game.

Dolgeville ends the Beavers season with a 20-8 win.

On the volleyball court, Indian River met Madrid Waddington in the Section 10 Overall Championship.

In the first set of the championship, Indian River took early control jumping to a 13-4 lead. Madrid-Waddington climbed back to 14-7, before the Warriors pulled away to win the set 25-10.

The second set was tied on six occasions through 17-17, before Indian River pulled away to win 25-19.

In the third set, after the Warriors moved out to a 4-1 lead for the Warriors, Madrid-Waddington battled back to see their first lead in the entire match, 15-11. Indian River served a string of seven unanswered points that turned the corner to a 25-18 win.

The Warriors defeated the Yellowjackets 3-0 to win the Section 10 Overall Championship.

It was a big day for South Lewis runners at the Section 3 Cross Country Championships at VVS.

On the girls’ side in Class D, South Lewis’ Brynn Bernard would capture her 2nd individual title with a time of 19 minutes 17.2 seconds. Teammate Mallory Kraeger finished 3rd and South Lewis won the team title in Class D,

In Class C, the South Jeff Girls Team finished 2nd.

On the boys’ side, the Falcons Conner Zehr finished 1st and teammate Collin Stafford was 2nd, leading South Lewis to the team title in Class D.

On the ice, 5th ranked Clarkson was on the road facing RPI in ECAC play.

In the 1st period, Clarkson was down 1-0 when Nicole Gosling dents the back of the net, tying the contest at 1.

9 seconds later, Sena Catterall gives Clarkson it’s first lead of the afternoon 2-1.

Lady Golden Knights remain unbeaten, defeating RPI 5-1.

The 6th ranked St. Lawrence Women were looking for their 6th straight win as they faced Union in the Capital District.

In the 1st period, Mae Batherson tickles twine, putting St. Lawrence on top 1-0.

St. Lawrence adds to its lead with under a minute left in the period when Julia Gosling scores a power play goal: 2-0.

St. Lawrence rolls past Union 6-1.
