LISBON, New York (WWNY) - Lisbon had a big day Monday in both boys and girls soccer.

On the boys side, Parishville-Hopkinton scored eight minutes in to take a 1-0 lead, but Lisbon evened the score on a penalty kick. Then, in the second overtime, Lisbon scored on a breakaway to give the Knights a 2-1 victory and the Section 10 Class D title.

Lisbon’s girls held off a challenge by Chateaugay to win 1-0, and claim the Section 10 Class D title. The girls now move on to state playoffs for the first time since 2006.

Also Monday: Madrid-Waddington beat Clifton-Fine in volleyball to move on to the Class D championship against Chateaugay.

And Brandon Mothersell has been hired as the golf pro at Ives Hill country club in Watertown. Mothersell was the 2021 winner of the city golf championship and is a fixture in Watertown golf.

“I’m excited. It’s gonna be a big project,” Mothersell said. “They’re doing some really great things here. I’m excited to show it to everybody in the spring.”

Watertown developer Jake Johnson bought the club and is reopening it, after it was closed for the last few years.
