Highlights & scores: Section III football & Section X soccer
(WWNY) - Section III football and Section X soccer were on the local sports docket on Thursday.
In a Section III Class B2 football semifinal from South Jefferson, the Spartans hosted Jamesville-DeWitt
- The Spartans score on the second play of the game. Isaac Quonce finds an opening, changes direction and goes 37 yards for the touchdown. It’s 7-0 Spartans.
- Second quarter: J-D with a little trickery but Joseph Falasco fumbles on the reverse. Gaige Scofield picks up the loose ball and takes it in for the touchdown. Now it’s 14-0 Spartans.
- South Jeff’s special teams come up with the big play as they block the punt deep in Red Rams territory.
- But J-D comes up with the goal-line stand to keep it 14-0 at the half.
Spartans advance to the Class B2 final with a 28-8 win.
It was Heuvelton vs. Lisbon in a boys’ Section X Class D soccer semifinal.
- In the eighth minute, Lucas Gravlin to Cooper Rutherford who slams home the goal in the crease. It’s 1-0 Lisbon.
- Rutherford with the quick shot, but Brody Kelley makes one of his 14 good saves.
- At 20 minutes, Gravlin scores unassisted. It’s 2-0 Golden Knights at the half.
- Heuvelton’s best chance comes on a corner kick. Levi Biller to Camden Johnson, but deflected over the net.
- Noah Gendebien feeds Ty Jacobs for the header. It’s 3-0 Knights.
- Jacobs unloads a low blast from 25 yards, assisted by Gendebien.
Lisbon shuts out Heuvelton 4-0.
Parishville-Hopkinton met Chateaugay in the other Class D semi.
- Ryan Griffith with long bouncing shot in the crease, just inside the left post. It’s 1-0 Panthers.
- Avery Zenger pulls the ball away from the keeper and scores, upping Parishville-Hopkinton’s lead to 2-0.
- Zenger again – through the crease and just inside the far post. He would finish with a hat trick.
- On a direct kick, Chateaugay’s Peter Reynolds catches the right corner post.
Parishville Hopkinton beat Chateaugay 4-1.
