WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - There’s a project underway to put a roof over the stone bandstand in Watertown’s Thompson Park.

Brian Ashley chairs the bandstand roof committee. He says a roof would make the bandstand usable for concerts, fundraising events, and celebrations.

Watch the video for his interview on 7 News This Morning.

The total cost is $150,000. About $100,000 has been raised so far. The money has come from the city of Watertown, the Northern New York Community Foundation, and the Walker Family Community Fund.

The project will be part of the legacy of the late former Watertown Mayor Tom Walker.

The goal is to get all the engineering and design work done over the winter, break ground in the spring, and have a concert under the new roof before July 1.
