LOWVILLE, New York (WWNY) - Elveira D. Roggie, 94, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023 after a short stay at Sunset Nursing and Rehab Center, Boonville.

Born on March 24, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Mollie (Widrick) and Andrew Lehman.

Elveira married Wilburn on October 20, 1949. They shared 70 years together.

Elveira, a member of the Croghan Mennonite Church, lived a life of faith and service, teaching children’s and adult woman’s Sunday School and Summer Bible School, singing, and active in the sewing circle.

Elveira was a homemaker for many years. In 1965 she attended classes and passed the test to earn her GED certification. She worked in the cafeteria at Beaver River Central School until retirement. She tended a large vegetable garden and grew many flowers at her home in Croghan. In retirement, Elveira volunteered at the Watertown Agape Shoppe, MCC, and food services at Beaver Camp. She used her time productively, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and making beautiful braided rugs from old rags. A child of the Great Depression, she didn’t waste time or anything else.

Elveira is survived by her children, Dolores Gingerich (John), Calvin Roggie (Donna), and Joyce Gingerich (Lowell). Also surviving are her 11 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren, and her brother Everett Lehman. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her brothers Arthur Lehman, Richard Lehman, and grandson Jed Roggie.

Elveira’s family are grateful for the skillful care and loving companionship provided by Patricia Steria and team of caregivers. Elveira’s last few years at Brookside Retirement Community would not have been possible without Patricia. They also express gratitude to her caregivers at Sunset Nursing and Rehab.

A memorial service for Elveira, will be held at 1:00PM, Monday November 27th at Croghan Mennonite Church. Calling hours are 11:00AM until the start of the memorial service.
