WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - Maureen A. Swartz, 82, of Watertown passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 18, 2023 at Hospice of Jefferson County. She is predeceased by her  brothers William J. Mahar and Edward J. Mahar.

Born as Maureen Ann Mahar on May 10, 1941, in Syracuse, NY, the daughter of William and Mary (Cabey) Mahar.

She grew up in Syracuse, NY and c from St. Anthony’s High School. She worked as a Research Assistant at Syracuse University for years before moving to Watertown.

Maureen was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church and was a member of its choir and Altar Rosary Society. She was active for years in the Watertown Figure skating club, New York State pageant, Jefferson County Historical Society and the IHC School Board. She enjoyed volunteering in the community, any church function, reading, playing Bridge, and especially spending time with her family.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Eric (Abigail) Swartz, Christopher (Tricia) Swartz, and Amy (Joe) O’Donnell, all of Watertown and Kelly (Ted) Moore, Florida; fourteen grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins and the father of her children, H. Thomas Swartz, Florida. She is also survived by her fourteen grandchildren Luke, Rory, Grace, Jonah, Conor, Madeline, Michael, Finley, Owen, Lucy, Bernadette, Mary, Greta, and Margaux.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church. Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown and online condolences to Maureen’s family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com. There are no Calling hours at Maureen’s request.
