He was born on February 12, 1947, in Gouverneur, the son of the late, Donald and Keitha Jeffers Hall. In 1965 he graduated from Hermon DeKalb Central School, and continued his education at Alfred State University, graduating in 1967 with an Associate Degree in data processing. Following college, he was in the United States Army in Vietnam where he received an army commendation medal for heroism in the Republic of Vietnam on May 9, 1969. He married Lois Stuhldreher on May 13, 1972 in Lindenhurst, New York. Landon was employed for many years as a computer programmer at IBM in Rochester, coming home one day announcing he was retiring and became an over the road truck driver, which was a career he had always wanted to do. He was a member of the Gamma Theta Gamma fraternity, and the St. Vincent DePaul Church in Churchville.  He was very involved in his church, working Bingo and the church carnival.
