POTSDAM, New York (WWNY) - Keven B. French Sr., 73 of Flatt Rock Road, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday November 19, 2023 at his residence.

Keven was born June 11, 1950 to the late Kenneth J. French and Helena T. Gonyou. On January 10, 1969 he was joined in marriage to Sondra S. Sabre, which later ended in divorce.

In earlier years Keven worked at Elliott’s Hardwoods in Potsdam. he later went on to employment with the Potsdam Central School District as a Bus Driver, known by many in the community, he thoroughly enjoyed this part of his life and touched the hearts of many, always greeting them with a mischievous smile and good morning. After 37 years with the district; Keven retired in 2011.

Keven is predeceased by his parents Kenneth and Helena French, grandson Austin French, by his siblings John French, Francis French, Bernard French and Sophia Brown (French).

Keven is survived by his children, Rhonda (Peter) Blackmer, Joann (Jeffrey) Yette, Keven French Jr (Kristopher Richards), Samantha French (Wilfred Middlemiss), Jerrid  French, Teabra (Joshua) Porter, Grandchildren, Zacharey Blackmer, Jessica Blackmer, Madison Yette, Cody Yette, Kennedy Yette, Camden French, Sophia Yette,  Nathaniel French, Trinitee French, Brycen French, Tyler Lee French, Jaylynn Middlemiss and Isabella French. Daughter in-law Shauna LaFave, a brother Wendell French, a sister Victoria Dibble and several nieces and nephews.

Keven leaves behind his dearly loved animal companions Bailey (dog) Margaret (cat) Flip (parrot).

Keven was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren they were his reason for smiling, He was the glue that held everyone together. Being a Papa brought him great joy and was the reason for the never ending twinkle in his eye. Always a prankster with a pull my finger ending with a boisterous laugh. Even in the darkest times Keven showed his children strength and courage, they will carry on his legacy with pride and resilience.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2023 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at the Garner Funeral Home, Potsdam. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 1:00 pm with Pastor John McGuire, officiating, followed by burial in the Bayside Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Potsdam Rescue Canton Rescue NYS police and off duty Potsdam Police officer Sean Oney for their valiant effort.
