Bethany B. “Betty” Smith, 94, formerly of Theresa and Chaumont

BREWERTON, New York (WWNY) - Bethany B. “Betty” Smith, 94, formerly of Theresa and Chaumont, NY died Monday, November 20, 2023 peacefully in Brewerton, NY, under the care of Hospice of Central New York, with family by her side.

Betty was born in Theresa, NY, November 17, 1929, daughter of Albert and Arlena (Beebee) Bickelhaupt. She married William E. “Bill” Smith in 1966. She retired as a bookkeeper for Bickelhaupt’s Garage in Theresa.

Betty is survived by her two children, Mark L. (Kristy) Smith, Brewerton, NY and Lisa M. (Jack) Recor, Morgantown, KY; stepsons W. Gary (Debbie) Smith, Carthage, NY and Michael L. (Deborah) Smith, Cheyenne, WY; daughter-in-law, Hilda, Theresa, NY; twelve grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

Bethany was predeceased by husband, Bill, in 2015, stepson, James, in 2017, her parents, and former husband, Paul Decker, all of Theresa, NY.

Burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Theresa, will be at her family’s convenience. Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown and online condolences to Betty’s family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com. Donations may be made in her name to your local Hospice Organization.
