EVANS MILLS, New York (WWNY) - Arnold L. Jones, 72, of North Martin Rd., passed away, Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Albany Medical Center, Albany, NY.

Born on October 21, 1951 in Gouvernuer, NY to Gerald W. and Mary Loretta Roberts Jones, he had attended Indian River Central Schools, Philadelphia, NY.

Arnold entered the United States Army on December 3, 1969, serving in Vietnam and becoming permanently disabled. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. He was honorably discharged on June 30, 1971.

A marriage to Melody A. Davenport in 1980, ended in divorce in 2018.

Arnold worked for George Countryman’s Exxon Gas Station, Theresa, James Church as a farmer, and construction jobs around the local area.

He was a member of the Disabled Veterans of American and the Robert Markwich Post 798, Philadelphia and he enjoyed fishing and deer hunting.

Survivors include two daughters and two sons-in-law, LeeAnn B. L. and Jason Raczkowski, Culpeper, VA and Hazel E. and Jason Morrison, Silver Creek, NY; ex-wife, Melody Varney and her husband, James, Philadelphia, NY; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Frank and Decha Jones, LaFargeville, NY, Darcy Jones and companion, Deborah Nevilles, Gouverneur, NY; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Pam Delles, Philadelphia, NY, Judy and Chris Brass, Mary Ann and Ned Barnes, and Ruth and Perry Durgin, Theresa, NY; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Jones, Theresa, NY; four grandchildren, Katlyn, Calub, James and Jacob; nieces, nephews and cousins.

His parents, and three brothers, Geral Jones, David Jones and Donald Jones died before him.

Graveside services with military honors will be 11:30 am, Saturday, November 25, 2023 in Oakwood Cemetery, Theresa, NY, with Lay Minister, Connie Gushlaw of the Philadelphia United Methodist Church, officiating.

A calling hour will be 10-11am at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY, prior to the graveside service.
