WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - More than one-million dollars in state funding is going to the town of Watertown, towards what residents have called a much-needed water project.

The $10-million project will extend the town’s water pipes into Northland Estates on Route 11, just south of the city.

Residents of the trailer park have experienced water main breaks in the past, including a January 2022 incident which left some residents without water for more than a week.

The town already has $5 million in state funding set aside for the project, awarded last November.

Town Supervisor Joel Bartlett says the search for more funding continues.

“We have some additional funding applications for the grants, and hopefully we’ll be able to bring the cost of the project down to the users,” Bartlett said.

Bartlett says the project is in its final design phase. Construction is expected to start late summer or early fall.
